Within these
pictures you see the concepts present in shifting hegemonies in our culture the
first being present in the first picture of equal opportunity and with the
second picture of equal protection. Within the first picture you see comingling
students an ideal that up until the last sixty years was almost unheard of in
an academic setting there were clearly defined roles associated with men and
women and the push for equality can be seen very heavily in the halls of
universities but there is still resistance to the ideal of equality seen with
glass ceilings and tradition
In the
our society there is still a very gendered approach to crime and the handling
of victims and although it is getting better with laws like the rape shield
laws there is still the approach that a crime is done to a man and that a woman
asked to be assaulted or brought it on herself. We challenge this notion here
by pointing out that the victim is not to blame, that they didn’t ask for it,
and in all situations no means no.
Hah, I love the sarcasm here, especially calling it a 'radical' idea.
ReplyDeleteI think it is great that these radcial ideas of feminism are coming from men. I especially like the second, it fits stereotypes of a woman walking alone with in a shorter skirt and the idea that she wants to be attacked or assualted. Very good job guys!!
