Does this make me smart?

We all judge and stereotype the people we are surrounded by everyday and it is something that we may think we are not doing but it may occur without any thought being put into it. There are many different stereotypes when it comes to all of the races in our society and that list can probably be forever long. In the photo I have captured I chose an Asian stereotype that we all probably know, which is “all Asians are smart.” Does this make him smart because he is Asian and studying/doing homework while others are not?

  1. Thank you Jasmine for this photo I agree with you completely. Asians are always portrayed either they are smart or they know kung fu. i had an Asian friend back in high school that had to struggle with this stereotype. whenever he didn't get the desired grade on a test/quiz he was critiqued based on the stereotype of all Asians are smart.

  2. Asian stereotypes is literally one of the most ridiculous stereotypes ever somehow created. Most people think that Asian people are genius's , while the rest of us aren't. This stereotype was made because Asian countries are more focused on their education then the U.S. is. Which is why we are ranked #25 in the world for smart people. Just saying!

  3. I think this was a very good topic to bring up. Each race has many stereotypes. This is a stereotype that I have heard multiple times, but learned later that Asians work very hard to get good grades and accomplish what they do. I do wonder if everyone in the first picture was studying would people still stereotype the boy who was Asian as the smartest student?

  4. I think this is solely because of the media. You always see the "asian" studying, doing something 'smart' or saying something 'smart.' It's just up to us to look past the stereotypes and actually get to know someone before judging them on their race.
