There's Always A Choice

Sara Wallenberg and Heather Berdahl

As the controversy over abortion continues to increase in the United States, it is evident that adoption is becoming a more popular option. There are many couple that would love to have kids be are not capable to do so. Heather's aunt and her partner were blessed with the opportunity to adopt two girls from outside of the United States. Their biological mothers could have made the decision to abort them but instead decided to give them to a family who has always wanted children of their own.
If more people were educated on this option, people like Sherri and Mary could become parents and fulfill their dreams of having a family. Not everyone who is expecting is ready to be a parent and although abortion may seem like the only option, adoption can give hope to the unplanned child's future.

  1. I'm going to be nice.

While it seems that this is a very well intentioned post, with what is supposed to be a positive message about another option after conception, I want to point out that it did not come out as positive. Not even slightly.

The bias against abortion is obvious and clear-cut. While I can respect your beliefs on the issue, this is dangerously shaming women who abort their fetus/zygote.

Instead of focusing on the wonderful option of adoption, you just end up shaming abortion.

  2. Going off what Rachel said staying pregnant causes major changes in a woman's body and there is what comes after giving birth and having to give up your child. Postpartum depression is common enough without thinking of giving away your baby. Adoption is a great option and should be discussed more, but there are many things to consider that go with that option.
