Obesity is sinning...

When I lived back in Kentucky, we had a priest come weekly to preach about how college students are doomed because we don't attend church enough. I was bluntly yelled at by this priest that I was going to hell because I was obese.

I went home that day and cried, hating myself for looking like a bloated whale. For a few years I have been trying to lose weight and I have lost 30 pounds.

After moving to Minnesota, I have begun to appreciate my body more, and am starting to learn to like the way I look. I don't want to be skin and bones like 100% of women think they should. I would like to be at a healthy weight eventually, but until that day I am going to be happy with myself and my body. I will go to hell being proud of myself, eating a piece of cake smiling.

  1. I'm very proud you have become more comfortable in your own skin. Thank you for sharing! Your last line made me laugh pretty hard too. I guess I am just wondering what religion holds this as a sin. Thanks!

  2. It's sad how much pressure from the media is put on physical appearance. I agree with you going for a healthful look, and not skin & bones. It's great how you've become happy with who you are. Life is too short for worries. :)

  4. How much you weigh is never a sin! I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Love your body and appreciate it! Many people have health issues because of an unhealthy weight, embrace yourself and don't let anybody put you down! Congratulations on your accomplishments!

  5. Great post. Obesity being a sin is absolutely ridiculous. I can't believe a priest would ever say something like that. The last line was a good one.

  6. I know a lot of obese people that are completely happy in their skin. I'm glad that you were able to be as well. People weight should never be a sin as long as you're happy.

  10. Im glad that you have started to appreciate yourself more. So many people are extremely judgmental and harsh with what they say, even a priest. Everyone is to focused on critiquing others when they should be focused on themselves.

  11. Sharing a story about yourself takes a lot of courage and I am glad you did! I could not agree with you more. Appearance is a big deal in our society and no one should feel as if they are not pretty enough.

  12. Most women in america think they are overweight if they get over a size six in jeans.I believe a heathy weight is over a size six. Most women think they are obese in when they are in double digit jeans. I feel when you hit the double digit jean then you are the healthiest you can be. I wish I was a size 10. but that just my personal opinion
