Switching Roles

Courtney Roufs & Kristi Edblom

In today's society, people have an image in their head about the roles that each gender should fulfill.  We took pictures that challenged the stereotypical roles in the household. Women are typically seen as the one's who cook, clean, and take care of the children, whereas men play the "masculine" role of providing for the family and maintaining the home. These photos show that stereotypes do not always hold true and that each gender can fulfill any role within the household.

  1. You gave good examples in your writting and showed them in the pictures. The picture of a women fixing the sink definately challenges the typical gender norms and expectations.

  2. These are great examples of switched gender roles. Not many people believe women are capable of fixing a sink or see many men doing laundry. I like seeing these gender norms broken. It gives hope to the world changing their views on gender roles.

  3. I think these are really good photos, they kind of made me laugh. In my house, my dad is the one who did most of the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc and my mom is more of the main "bread winner". I do think people still think that women aren't capable of doing some of the more "manly" tasks and these photos challenge this.

  4. Your images did a great a job representing your topic. I absolutely agree and love it when men help out around the house. Im starting to see that happen more these days. Each gender really are capable of doing the same kind of tasks within the household.

  5. My parents did stick the gender roles for the most part but every now and then they didn't break away from them. I think as a relationship between any gender there is something to be learned by sharing in household duties. The relationship can be stronger because we learn to respect what the other one does.

  6. I love that you challenge how in our culture we automatically assume that certain roles have to be done by a certain gender. I like that you reversed the roles of each gender in your pictures.

  7. I love this picture. I believe women do not need men. I believe we can do just as much as a man can do and vise versa. Me and my best friend did this for a day. We wanted to see who could last longer i the other ones shoes. Great Photo.

  8. This picture is so great! I love the way that you challenge the social norms about gender roles. I believe we are definitely evolving into a society where these roles are being combined!
